Cool Ways to Learn

Page history last edited by Steve Andrew 2 yrs ago

What's this all about?

You don't need a PhD. in education to be able to think up ways to learn something. I'm sure that at least once or twice, you've looked back on one class period and wished, "if only sir had taught that topic this way" or "how much more effective it would have been if the test was like this". Now, instead of just muttering about how we would have wanted to learn that lesson on figures of speech, let's put our ideas here so that somehow, we'll be able to help our teachers become better teachers.

With all due respect, many of our teachers are good, but then again, who said that the good people had a monopoly of ideas? So go ahead, tiger, and tell us that idea for a lesson of yours.

English

  1. I wish that when we discussed figures of speech, instead of just seeing one-liners taken out of context, we'd be given texts which skillfully employed figures of speech. Also, instead of being asked to memorize the 30+ FOS, it would have been more meaningful if we were asked to write compositions which made good use of the FOS, to demonstrate that we actually understood how to use them.

  1. If only the lessons about art were a bit more subjective instead of objective. It would have been cool to really see colorful examples of the paintings and be able to compare the different styles visually. I would have liked to learn the why's of art, why the different styles came into being when they did, and what this says about the people of that period, and also, how it reflects in other aspects of their society.
